Do & Don'ts of Tyre Handling
Tyre Handling / Transporting Tyres
Off-The Road tyres are very heavy, poor handling of an unfitted tyre can cause serious injury.
When transporting tyre, particular care must be taken to ensure that the beads & inner of the tyre are not damaged. Even a minor damage on bead or inner liner will result in premature failure due to air seeping into the body of the tyre causing a separation.
In order to eliminate the risk of damage at the bead area and other problems which could result due improper handling, we strongly advise that –
- The tyre is not lifted on the bead with a crane hook.
- Flat straps ( wide fiber / rubber sling or belts ) to be used.
- Do not use ropes, steel slings or chains.

- The tyre is lifted under the tread and not on the beads when a fork lift is used.

Storage
In order to avoid premature ageing and damage to tyres, they should be stored in a cool dry place indoors and away from direct sunlight, electric motors, oil, fuels, grease, lubricants & other volatile substances.
If this cannot be done, the tyres must be covered with a waterproof tarpaulin to protect from Ozone sources, Ultra-violet rays & weather.
Tyres should be stored vertically on the roll, one against the other.
Avoid stacking one over the other.
Tubes, flaps & O-rings may be stocked in their original packing or unwrapped on racks / shelves – never suspended.
When storing tyres fitted on rims, reduce inflation pressure.
