BKT AND ONE TEAM TOGETHER FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: A NEW PLAYGROUND FOR THE LITHUANIAN COMMUNITY
On Wednesday 17 June the fifth BKT Legacy Project was inaugurated. This is the initiative that came about through the partnership between BKT and One Team, the social responsibility programme of EuroLeague that aims to provide new spaces for the cities of this major European competition to play basketball and have fun in safe environments. For the fifth consecutive year, the Premium Partner of the competition and Title Sponsor of the BKT Eurocup confirms the attention is devotes to the communities and territories of sports fans.
A new outdoor basketball court has been built in Kaunas, in Lithuania, in the residential district of Šilainiai. This playground is intended to represent a new community space for the local population, a place to play sport in a safe environment. The new area also brings with it a strong meaning for the city: its design incorporates the image of Lithuanian basketball legend Arvydas Sabonis, who participated in the ceremony together with the One Team Ambassador of Žalgiris Kaunas. A particularly significant initiative in a neighbourhood where the culture and passion for basketball are deeply rooted.
The legend of EuroLeague Basketball Ramūnas Šiškauskas and the EuroLeague champion with Real Madrid, as well former Milan, Žalgiris Kaunas and Panathinaikos player, Jonas Mačiulis, also participated in the inaugural day.
The ceremony marked the latest chapter of the One Team – BKT Legacy Project, which has already upgraded playing fields in Athens, Istanbul, Berlin and Badalona, with the aim of generating positive and lasting change in local communities in Europe. Kaunas – the home of one of the most passionate basketball cultures on the continent – was a natural further stage.
Through projects such as One Team, Fattore Campo in Italy and Places to Play in the United Kingdom, BKT renews its commitment to supporting the spreading of sporting activities in communities, with an attentive gaze directed at the new generations.
